Statement of Need

Otolaryngology is a broad-based specialty that requires knowledge of a wide range of clinical presentations. Because of the diversity of clinical conditions encountered and the modification of the presentation of these at various stages of growth and development, it takes longer to acquire the skills for pattern recognition. This involves among other things the ability to recognize and manage the rare conditions as well as the rare presentations of the common conditions.

In its quest to better address the topic, Elsevier has pooled its existing resources with those of the nationally acclaimed otolaryngologists of India who have chosen to apply their rich clinical knowledge and expertise to serve the Indian patients. This book provides a useful basis from which to view new perspectives in otolaryngology, coupled with the more traditional protocols. It will be a valuable learning tool and reference point for the many professionals engaged in the field of otolaryngology.
