Posterior Fixation Faden Suture


Indications


Extraocular muscle imbalance that requires muscle weakening in the field of gaze of the muscle but not in primary gaze.


Preoperative Procedure


See Chapter 3.


A complete strabismus evaluation with determination of detailed surgical plan is necessary.


Instrumentation


image Lid speculum (e.g., Lancaster, Barraquer)


image Needle holder


image Sutures (6–0 silk with spatula needle, double-armed 6–0 Vicryl with spatula needle (S29 or S14), 7–0 Vicryl suture, 5–0 Mersilene with S28 or S29 needles)


image Toothed forceps (e.g., Bishop-Harmon, 0.5 mm Castroviejo)


image Two locking 0.5 mm toothed forceps


image Westcott scissors (rounded tips)


image Cautery (bipolar forceps)


image Muscle hooks (e.g., Green, Jameson)


image Stevens tenotomy hooks


image Castroviejo caliper
