Indications
Determination of restrictive component of limited ductions.
Performed in the operating room before strabismus surgery or in the office with a cooperative adult.
Preoperative Procedure
None.
Instrumentation
Lid speculum (e.g., Lancaster, Barraquer)
Toothed forceps (e.g., Bishop-Harmon, 0.5 mm Castro-viejo)
Operative Procedure
1. Anesthesia: General anesthesia or topical (e.g., proparacaine or tetracaine). If topical, augment the anesthesia by holding a cotton pledget soaked with anesthetic in the area to be grasped.
2. Place lid speculum if patient is under general anesthesia.
